ACA nabs Negri assemblyman

SEREMBAN: A Barisan Nasional assemblyman from Negri Sembilan was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Agency for allegedly receiving a bribe from a contractor.

Lenggeng assemblyman Mustafa Salim, 50 (pic), was nabbed at a restaurant in Mantin at about 4.30pm soon after. A sum of money was also seized during the arrest.

It is learnt that Mustafa’s wife was also at the restaurant at the time.

It is believed the arrest was related to the issue of sand mining.

The first-term assemblyman is a division member of the Seremban Umno division.

A source said the ACA had got wind of the assemblyman’s meeting with the contractor and that allowed the arrest to take place.

The ACA officers took Mustafa, a former secondary school teacher, and the contractor to the agency’s state headquarters in Seremban to record their statements.

A director of investigations, Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdul, confirmed Mustafa’s arrest.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan, when contacted, said he was informed of the arrest just before evening prayers.

“The ACA is free to investigate him. No one is above the law,” he said, adding that the state government would fully cooperate with the agency.

As at press time, Mustafa is still being detained at the ACA office here.
